Award for Rhonda

The Register Committee Deputy Chairperson Rhonda Rotherham has just received recognition for her outstanding service to the Neighborhood Watch program with the presentation of a Neighborhood Watch State Award of Honour.

We heartily endorse this Award and know we are fortunate to have this hardworking volunteer as a member of the Register Committee.

ELDER ABUSE


On the 16th October 2006 the Register Committee arranged a Elder Abuse Forum which was held in Portarlington and attended by 44 people, including representatives of 18 Service Providers. Guest Speaker was Lillian Jeter, Executive Director of the Elder Abuse Prevention Association.

COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES
1. Representatives of the Committee have recently attended two training programs arranged by Geelong Volunteer Resource Centre:-
(a)“Valuing and Supporting Volunteer Contributions Professional Development Day for Volunteer Managers and Coordinators.
(b) Money for Groups or Events – Where and How

2. Representatives have met with the following State Government of Victoria
Members to discuss the Register and its activities:-
Hon Lisa Neville MP Member for Bellarine, Minister for Mental Health,
Minister for Community Services, Minister for Senior Victorias
And
Ms Mary Wooldridge MP, Member for Doncaster, Shadow Minister for
Mental Health, Drug Abuse, Community Services and Ageing.

3. The Committee is currently investigating the possibility of promoting the use of such safety items as exterior key safes and personal alarms.
